You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Volunteer Opportunities Include:Teens, learn how you can earn community service hours. Marketing/Public Relations VolunteerAssist the Development team with building media contacts; updating media lists; assist with submitting calendar listings, event marketing and press relations material; updating CH’s facebook and twitter pages; assisting with special events; complete ad hoc projects, special requests and production tasks as needed. Identify community events that Children’s Harbor may participate in via a table top or presentation and assist in scheduling CH’s participation. Represent Children’s Harbor at community fairs. SPECIAL SKILLS/ REQUIRMENTS: Achieved or working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communication or similar field. Past experience working in fundraising a plus. Strong written and verbal skills required. Excellent interpersonal skills required, as well as strong documentation skills. Effective team player with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. TIME REQUIREMENTS: To be determined. Can be flexible in time and location of work.
Development Assistant Assists Children’s Harbor’s Development Team with reconciling and filing donor “thank you” letters and donation forms; sorting through donations that CH receives and place them in the appropriate home, and/or storage room; sorting through and organization grant filing cabinet. Assists the DC with administrative volunteer tasks, which is include but are not limited to: sending birthday cards to volunteers every month; creating volunteer files; assisting with volunteer evaluations; following up with interested volunteers; attending volunteer fairs; attending speaking engagements; securing auction/raffle items for events; assisting with database clean up; assisting with mailings and other special projects. SPECIAL SKILLS: Must be outgoing and a people person; Have good communication skills, both verbal & written. Ideal candidate is someone who is looking to gain experience in fundraising TIME REQUIREMENTS: 2-4 hours per week or as needed.
Residential Administrator
Assists the Residential Supervisor with administrative tasks, this includes but is not limited to organizing and compiling client files, making telephone calls, database entry, volunteer scheduling, faxing documents, shredding, and other miscellaneous job duties. SPECIAL SKILLS: Strong organizational skills and the ability to be a team player. TIME REQUIREMENTS: Tuesdays- 2pm to 4pm; Thursdays- 3pm to 5pm; Fridays- 4pm to 6pm
Administrative Youth Volunteer ( 17 years old or younger)
Provides administrative and clerical assistance to the Family Strengthening department. Assists FS and AA with basic clerical duties (i.e. creation of new client packets, copying, filing, etc.) and basic administrative duties. SPECIAL SKILLS: Respectful of different cultures; good oral & written communication skills; able to stand for extended periods of time; able to maintain client confidentiality; detail oriented and organized TIME REQUIREMENTS: Tuesdays or Thursdays 10am to 2pm (schedule can be flexible)
Family Strengthening Administrative Helper (over 18 years old) Provides administrative and clerical assistance to the Family Strengthening department. Program Assistant
Assist PD with file organization; organizing and assembling binders and manuals; preparing for monitoring’s, licensing’s and audits; provides CQI task support (i.e. filing raw data in CQI binders, writing meeting minutes, inputting data on tracking calendar, help prepare CQI meetings); providing support to supervisor (i.e. faxing, filing, photo copying, making labels, taking dictation, etc.); creating packets for training, new hires, and groups; creating forms; shredding and filing assistance. SPECIAL SKILLS: Good computer skills, writing skills, interpersonal skills, time management skills, and general office skills TIME REQUIREMENTS: minimum of 4 hours per week (Monday- Friday; 10am-4pm)
Human Resources Volunteer Supports the day-to-day operations of the offices, and facilities while providing support to the Residential Program. Assists the OM with filing, standard maintenance calls, IT technical support, general HR and administrative tasks. SPECIAL SKILLS: Accurate and attentive to detail; ability to communicate effectively; strong knowledge of computers and software; strong computer application skills ability to keep and maintain records and information; ability to assist and support others. TIME REQUIREMENTS: minimum of 4 hours per week (Monday- Friday; 10am-4pm)
Homework Helper Assists each child with their homework. The needs of each child will be assessed and the homework helper will be assigned 1 or 2 children to help on a weekly basis. SPECIAL SKILLS: Experience working with children; patient and kind; education background a plus; tutoring experience a plus TIME REQUIREMENTS: minimum of 1 day per week; 3:00 to 4:00
Playtime Volunteer Assists the HP with keeping the children occupied after homework time and before dinner. The playtime volunteer plays games with the kids, plays sports outside, plays on the playground, plays videogames, etc. SPECIAL SKILLS: experience working with children; patient and kind; desire to help children TIME REQUIREMENTS: minimum of 1 day per week; 4:30 to 6:00
Weekend Assistant
Support the HP’s with the activities on the weekends. This includes but is not limited to, playtime with the children (inside & outside), homework help, reading time, light household chores, dinner preparations, etc. SPECIAL SKILLS: Experience working with children; must be patient and kind and have a desire to help children TIME REQUIREMENTS: Saturdays 4pm to 8pm and/or Sundays 4pm to 6pm
Maternity Assistant Assists the Residential Maternity Home with taking care of the teenager’s babies (newborn – 2 years old) while the teens participate in their groups, independent living skills classes, and therapy sessions. Also assist the staff with miscellaneous tasks, like light household chores and dinner preparations. SPECIAL SKILLS: Experience working with children, especially infants and toddlers is a must. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse groups of individuals. All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to work directly with the children and are subject to a background check, at a cost of $73.25. This must be completed before a volunteer can begin volunteering on the Children's Harbor campus. Groups who host activities on campus or individuals who only volunteer once may not be subjected to a background check depending on the situation.
