Edible Landscaping Arrives at Children's Harbor

Our friends at the Sheinberg YMCA of Weston brought some excitement to Children's Harbor with a new project. On Saturday, April 9th, more than 20 volunteers dedicated their day to planting edible landscaping on the 13 acre Children’s Harbor campus. Volunteers were from the Outreach committee and Teen leadership club from the Sheinberg Family YMCA and from an organization called Teen Challenge. The project was organized by Joanna Sheinberg and planted under the guidance of Organic Green Solutions. Children’s Harbor is now adorned with approximately 30 new fruit trees including banana, cherry and mango trees and two and raised bed gardens.
Edible landscaping can be used for food as well as ornamental beauty, and brings a wide variety of rewards. Edible landscaping is generally low maintenance, offers a therapeutic activity for the children as they care for the fruit and vegetables and watch them grow, and provides food for the families, helping to save money on groceries. The project was funded by Ultimate Sports Institute and South Florida Institute of Sports Medicine.
Thank you!

Special thanks additional supporters of the project:
