Children’s Harbor shows appreciation to volunteers at Village Tavern

On Thursday, April 19, 2012, Children’s Harbor’s volunteers, staff and board members gathered to together for an Appreciation Dinner at Village Tavern, in the Pembroke Gardens Promenade. The dinner was to honor all of the selfless individuals who devote a countless number of hours to Children’s Harbor. From helping the foster children with their homework to assisting the Family Strengthening Department with creating files, each volunteer plays a critical role in the success and achievements of Children’s Harbor. Last year volunteers provided more than $14,000 worth of services for the organization.
Village Tavern graciously hosted and sponsored the event by underwriting the entire dinner. The mission of Children’s Harbor touched the hearts of Village Tavern leaving no question in their minds about hosting the event for the volunteers. The venue served as the perfect location for the Appreciation Event, allowing for a small, intimate dinner environment. “We are truly grateful to the management and staff at Village Tavern for partnering with Children’s Harbor to honor this dedicated group of individuals. The generous support exemplifies their commitment to supporting our local community,” says Sue Glasscock, President and CEO of Children’s Harbor.
“I truly appreciated the opportunity to give something back to those that volunteer, and selflessly give themselves to build a better tomorrow for those children that need them,” says Edward Johnson, General Manager of Village Tavern. “We at Village Tavern like to be able to give back to the community and be involved in our community.”
This event not only served as a way to honor and appreciate the dedicated volunteers, it also allowed for the staff and volunteers to get to know each other on a more personal level, outside of the workplace. The night was filled with lively conversations, laughs and touching stories.

American Intercontinental University Hosts a Fun-Filled Day for CH Kids!

AMERICAN INTERCONTINENTAL UNIVERSITY HOSTS A FUN-FILLED DAY OF ACTIVITIES FOR THE FOSTER CHILDREN AT CHILDREN’S HARBOR.
On Saturday, February 4th, some of AIU’s Alumni volunteered their time at Children’s Harbor by hosting an activity, full of games, food and fun. They immediately fell in love with the foster children living on Children’s Harbor’s campus, which made for a meaningful and inspiring day for both the children and volunteers. AIU saw the need to spend time and mentor these children, in hopes of inspiring them to achieve greatness in their lives.
Through the coordination of Felicia Medina, AIU’s Career Services Advisor & Campus Alumni Champion, volunteers spent four hours with the children, participating in activities like egg and spoon races and sack races, in addition to a delicious BBQ and time to just get to know one another. The volunteers also collected and donated items for CH’s Wish List, which included toiletries, gift cards, baby food and housewares.
Needless to say everyone had a great time and Children’s Harbor is very grateful to have such amazing volunteers involved with the organization.
