The History Of Children’s Harbor

The Dream began when …

Local businessman Bill Mahoney dreamt of building a place where siblings could grow up together; a place where children would feel safe and loved; and a place where children in foster care would know they matter.   Bill shared his dream with other community-minded individuals and in 1996 Children’s Harbor was established.

It began to take shape when the City of Pembroke Pines generously offered the organization an 8 acre plot of land to build the homes.  By 2008, the beautiful campus included 5 group homes, a base of operations for family counselors, and an administrative office. The facility includes a playground, basketball court, soccer field, and pavilion.

The dream became a reality. Children’s Harbor has given 300 siblings and 70 teen mothers in foster care a place to call home during a turbulent time in their young lives and provided in-home counseling for 3,800 families across Broward County.
